Has everyone entered to win the new HGTV 2010 green home in Massachusetts?! It’s really a fun mix that blends country with modern, in mostly a really cool, unexpected way. They mixed a lot of red, black and white which can easily read “club lounge mod” in my mind, but they completely went a different direction with it. Noticed some Galbraith and Paul prints, Perennials outdoor fabrics, Stray Dog lamps…
This HGTV Green Home is only the second home in the state of Massachusetts to achieve Gold certification. Here are just a few of the Gold standards they used -
Lot Design, Preparation, and Development
From site preparation to landscaping, all efforts were made to maintain the natural beauty of the home site, conserve water, control erosion and upcycle natural materials removed from the site.
Water Efficiency
HGTV Green Home 2010 design features will reduce the overall water consumption by 50 percent over a conventional home. Water efficiency reduces the utility bill and the community’s total demand for clean water.
Energy Efficiency
Though there are many factors that make a home sustainable, energy efficiency is key. From insulation and ductwork to state-of-the-art heating and solar components, the energy-saving features of HGTV Green Home 2010 far surpass those of a conventional home.
Indoor Environmental Quality
It’s important to control the quality of the air inside a home. This can be done by sealing off or exhausting unwanted dirt and fumes. The indoor air quality also requires reducing incoming moisture and improving ventilation.
